HG633 - Low Wifi Throughput

Good evening,

I have recently moved house and had TalkTalk fiber to the cabinet (40Mbps) installed and received a new HG633 on 21st January.

My connection to the Internet is good with over 35Mbps when connected to the router by Ethernet cable.

When I connect by Wifi I only got 20Mbps initially. After following the troubleshooting guide and changed to 2 bands to 2 different SSIDs the speed now varies between 15Mbps and 27Mbps. I am still losing about 10Mbps to Wifi. Is this the best that can be achieved or is there a problem with my HG633 router?

I have checked using Wifi Analyzer on my Samsung Galaxy S5, and my router is not on the same network as other neighbours. My router is on 2.4GHz channel 3, there are neighbouring BT home hubs on channels 6 and 11. For 5 GHz my router is on channel 36, I could not detect any other networks on 5GHz.

Using my Galaxy S5 I was able to take some measurement of the signal strength and link speed. On 2.4 GHz next to my router the signal strength is -19dBm and the link speed 130Mbps. On 5GHz also next to my router the signal strength is -23dBm, and the link speed is 780 Mbps.

I would be greatful for any help and advice,

Many thanks,

John
