Hello,
for the past 2 weeks I've been experiencing slow speeds on my new (since march) superfibre. Since I got the line for about 2 weeks I was getting around 40-45mbps, which is slower than what was advertised (56-78) but whatever it didn't bother me. Then 2 weeks ago the speed has been dropping to around 10mbps, or 6, or back to 45 (and upload stayed at a solid 10-12mbps throughout). I've called TT, they did tests that showed nothing was wrong, sent an engineer on the 14th, who installed his own router, changed the frontplate on the master socket and tested on his tablet... exactly the same. He was getting 14mbps. So he called the BT Openreach.
Together, on his phone I set up 3 Openreach appointments for yesterday and today all day. They never showed.
I call TT today, and they tell me there was no appointment made (even though I got a message from CPW conferming it's been forwareded to them, I can only assume they also made some test on a computer that showed the sync speed in the high 40s, which my router also shows, and canceled the appointments).
Well, the lady on the phone went through the tests again, (the thrid time) only to tell me there was nothing wrong. I had to get angry and control the words comming out of my mouth. She agreed to make another Openreach appointment, which will be next wednesday since that's when I'm free again besides the weekend.
And now the weird part: Ive been testing and retesting the speed on internet-speedtest dot net and it's showing around 6-16mbps down and 10mbps up, yet when I test my torrent speed by downloading an ubuntu image via alternative downloads, which are provided over bittorent: low and behold I was getting them at around 4-5Megabytes ie. 40+mbps. Hmmmm. That;s weird.
So then I went and downloaded over HTTP, but with a download manager, that makes more than one connection to the server: and again, it is reaching speeds close to what I should be getting, 4MB.
So I am limited to around 200-500kBps (6-15mbps) PER CONNECTION (checking peers in torrent, none were sending faster than 400KiB, tried adding a picture but it won't let me). But if I make another connection, it ads up, they don't interfiere with each other until they saturate the 40mbps.
WHAT IS GOING ON? This is clearly not a wire problem, since I can get the speed just fine,my upload speed is rock solid, but it is a throttle per connection. Sometimes, it goes back to normal, especially in the mornings. This really feels like I'm being throttled.
