"Superfast broadband" has arrived in my locality - how can I improve my up&download figures?

"Superfast broadband" has just been made available in my locaility. I checked the BT Openreach website which says:

Your fibre service is connected from this exchange.

Exchange name: C*******n
Exchange status: Fibre enabled

Cabinet number: 5

Technology: FTTC

i.e. there is 'new' fibre between the exchange and my local cabinet, but 'old' copper from the local cabinet to my house.

I currently get 16.75 Mbps on download and 1.38 Mbps on upload, and I use a Netgear DGND330v2 ADSL2+ modem/router, with network type configured as PPPoA.

What do I need to do, if anything, to actually use "Superfast broadband" and improve my up&download figures?
