Hello,
So on 11th August, we upgraded from the simplybroadband package to the fibre medium package. On simplybroadband, we would get an average d/l speed of about 3.5 Mbit/s and a u/l speed of about 0.85 Mbit/s.
When we upgraded to fibre, we were given an estimate from TalkTalk that the download speed would be between 5 and 9 Mbit/s.
After upgrading to Fibre, the download speed now varied between about 3.8 and 4.0 Mbit/s, the upload speed is around 1Mbit/s and the ping will remain at a constant 20ish ms while it's not under load (One such speedtest taken today can be found here http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5615923187). Initially, we assumed that it was just some antics from the DLM period, and decided to wait for a bit. Fast forward to today, and the speed still usually remains at this slow rate.
I say usually because the weirdest thing happens when we reboot the router - The download speed increases to around 5.5Mbit/s (And I've seen it go as high as 6.2) with ping at a constant 20ish ms again for an hour or two. After which, the internet will "die" for about a minute (as in pingtests don't work except to occasionally tell me "destination net unreachable" and a red light shows up on internet on the router), then resurrect itself without us rebooting the router... and then be back at about 4 Mbit/s download speed until it's rebooted again.
I've tested this at various times of the day and found no difference in these results, so I suspect that this is not an issue related to traffic at peak times. All tests were done from a single computer connected via ethernet on speedtest.net .
We're obviously not too keen to reboot the router every couple of hours, as it will likely slow us down further and is a hassle to do, so is there someone from talktalk who'd be willing to look into this?
Thanks in advance
