Hi, just joined TT after moving to a non-cabled area and have only ever had cable broadband, so know virtually nothing about xDSL.
Our cabinet went live for fibre recently (new cab, Huawei) so I got a cheap HG612 3B from eBay and flashed it with the Howlingwolf SP08 firmware. I needed a transparent modem rather than the HG633 as I wanted to put a proper firewall on the connection without having to deal with double-NAT issues, among other things. Our fibre has only been connected for 5 days, so this might have an impact on the point of this post, and all good so far, but I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help with;
Prior to putting the HG612 on the line the HG633 reported a max downstream rate of about 66Mbps and upsream of 20Mbps; The HG612 reports 56Mbps/17Mbps respectively; Is there a setting on the 612 that I need to change to get the max reported speeds back up? The actual speed up/down is the same on both routers but I'm planning on going up to the "76Mbps" package at some point in the near future so want to make sure I can get the best out of it.
Also, according to DSLStats G.Inp isn't enabled. I understand this helps to maximise the downstream speed and according to various forums should be enabled on new cabinets. It's supported by the 612 (Broadcom chipset) but isn't being enable. Should I be concerned? Is there anything I can do to get it to enable?
