Fluctuating Speeds - Never reaching potential.

Hi,

I signed up for the 38mbit package about 18 months ago and at first the initial speeds were around 28mbit. Not the 38mbit advertised but good enough not to bother changing provider. This speed gradually reduced and as I had the white VDSL2 modem I couldn't access any information about the connection so was pretty much blind.

About 6 months into the contract, there was a broadband outage in the area, I was told BT were upgrading the exchange, so I was hoping for a bit more speed and the possibility of upgrading the the 76mbit package. BT's 'upgrade' send the speed spiralling downwards. It hit about 8-12 and eventually capped out at 20, never going any faster.

After discussing this with Customer Services on numerous occasions and asking them to retrain the line, all they did was go through their normal checklist, which essentially is looking for a fault internally. It was impossible to convey the message.

When my contract ran out, I called up to inform TT of my intention to leave for a provider with more consistent speed and they suggested to wait and get the issue fixed. As part of the fault finding exercise, I recently got the HG633 Router/modem and thought perhaps it would yield better results. After its initial start-up of around 2-5 mbit, it eventually reached the old speed of 20.

I provide you the (limited) opportunity to make it go faster, (the modem claims it can hit 35mbit) - please do you thing and surprise me, but with speeds going on, but BT style going downwards ;-)

Can someone retrain the line and/or discover the cause of the capping? Please make it go "faster".

PS I can't seem to find an option on the TT page to upgrade to 76mbit anymore. Is it because the system has deemed the line to not be capable of that speed? I wanted to try it out to see if that'll force the system to re-evaluate it.

As I'm about to make a decision on switching providers, this is a last effort to see if speeds improve.
