Apologies in advance if this has been asked before, but I've just upgraded to Superpowered Fibre in the last month. I've been with TalkTalk for years on the ADSL broadband and was getting around 6mb so I'm pretty pleased that I can now get around 21mb. However, in the last few weeks we've noticed that the speeds were dropping dramatically and earlier this week I did a test and found we were on 0.71mb download speed - using my laptop connected to the router via an ethernet cable. Interestingly upload speeds remain around 6mb.
The Huawei router is not near any electrical devices and all of the lights continue to flash green. Rebooting the router immediately returns the broadband speed to normal. In the last week I've monitored the situation every day, taking speed readings using a range of test services to make sure I'm not connected to a bad utility. I've also used the TalkTalk speed test and got the exact same results. I've since confirmed that every time I reboot the router (using the admin console) or power cycle it, the speed returns. Disconnecting the cable from the box also causes the speed to return.
In the past week I've had to do one of these actions a couple of times a day. Even when no one is using the network, or using it lightly to check email, I'm typically having to cycle things every 4 to 8 hours. I'm wondering if I have a problem with the router but can only test that theory if I have another router, which I don't.
I called TalkTalk today and they took my through the standard check list and everything seemed fine - because it is at the moment since I rebooted the router early this morning when I got up and it hasn't had any problems so far. I'm going to call them again once the router plays up and I'm sure they'll take me through some of things to try. In the meantime I was wondering if anyone here had come across something like this or had any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
