I have just switched to fibre broadband my ADSL speeds were 3.7Mbps download, 0.6 upload Mbps upload. The Go Live date was 24/09/2015 and I was sent a HG633 router which is set-up and working steadily on the system. The problem is I am only seeing speeds of 5Mbps download and 1.1Mbps upload, which ,of course hardly makes the switch worthwhile. But I am aware that it can take up to ten days to get up to speed I would have expected much higher than this from the beginning. On the Go Live date the Open Reach Engineer arrived and fitted a tester to the main phone socket and then left I assume to visit the local cabinet to do the work there, he then returned to fit a new filtered telephone socket in place of the non-filterd one. Now the question I have is that he mentioned a BT modem was to be fitted, which puzzled me so I said well I just thought that there was the new router to be fitted. When he returned to the house and fitted the new filtered socket he allowed me to fit the new router confirmed that it was working successfully and left. Now with no increase in speed after 3 days I am wondering should there be a BT modem as well or is it sufficient to just have the HG 633 router on its own.
