HG633 SUPERrouter wireless distance ridiculously poor, ping times wired and/or wireless terrible !!!!
tried all troubleshooting tips etc but as the subject name describes I have those problems.
I came over from a very old copper wire connection broadband connection from sky (not fiber), had the same router for years and years and the service was great apart from the very low main speeds and thats why I came over to talktalk.
But with the very old fashioned connection (not fiber) sky broadband and standard router, it may have been slow yes fine, but the ping times were perfect averaging 17ms day and night of every day of every year (and I mean hardwired via ethernet and also wireless too), and the wireless distance on the ancient sky connection I had was super amazing and the router was positioned in exactly the same place as the talktalk one is now.
This talktalk HG633 router has only one decent thing for me and that is the actual broadband speeds, they are fine, but as I will say again, the ping times wired or wireless average about 31ms all the time, thats nearly double the very old sky setup I had and as we all know, poor high ping times can and does cause really bad problems depending on what people (myself) are using the connection for.
As for the wireless distance coverage, that's just an absolute joke with this HG633, sitting in the same room as the router yes its fine and fully strength signal, walk into another room that only is devided with a gyproc (chalkboard) wall the signal strength drops a bar or two, these are new houses and the walls are all paper thin inside basically, no brickwork in the walls inside the house, just gyproc walls and ceilings in a small up and downstair house, if I take the computer up to the bedroom It drops at least two signal bars in strength, and worse still, if I walk outside the front or back door of the house with the same laptop the signal cuts off totally and at the front of the house outside the front window I am only about 4ft away from the router.
To me apart from the nice fast general broadband speeds I get, the ping times and the wireless distance are totally unaceptable especially when I compare it to my golden oldie non fiber sky connection and standard sky router.
I am not happy at all and I will wait here on staff coming back to me, thank you.
