Low Upstream SNR & Other Oddities

Hello Community/OCE's!

I've had this issue for approximately a week now. I've been quiet about it to see if it would clear up itself and it hasn't.

My service issues basically are:

The upstream SNR is constantly no more than 4.5 dB resulting in a lower overall attainable on my line which I know is capable of better. Also as a note I am actually synced at 20 Mbps (Higher than the current max attianble.)

Secondly the downstream SNR is ok in the 6.5-6.8 dB range. Current sync is at 64 and have a max attainable of 91, weirdly the downstream seems to be getting hammered by interleaving so I can't get my maximum sync of 70+ I used to get.

As a side note:

I've noticed that the noise margin on occasion has spiked back up to 6+ dB SNR on the upstream but then shortly after dipped back down to 4.2 dB SNR. Bringing down the max attainable with it too.

Max attainable for the downstream doesn't update when the SNR changes. It looks permanently stuck at 91 Mbps max attainable. It seems the HG633 is struggling to update in realtime.

^^^ That's the basics of my issue.

*I've ruled out anything being on a timer in the flat. As there isn't anything on one that would interfere with my connection.

*I've listened to the landline on numerous occasions but it's crystal clear with no noticeable audio problems associated with a line issue.

*It's certainly no physical line issue as it hasn't dropped out numerous times nor follows the typical physical line issues many report.

*No interference with Christmas lights as there is none near the DSLAM nor anyone in my street with them. Including my upstairs and downstairs neighbours. Neighbours to the left and right haven't got any either.

*I've ruled it out as a router issue too. I found an old HG633 in my wardrobe which I connected up and it shows the same oddities as the one I'm currently using.

*I was for the longest time on fastpath. After I powered off the HG633 for half an hour as a test to see if it would help my issues. At approximately 11AM, DLM resynced my router and I've been stuck on interleaved since.

*I've also ruled out crosstalk being a plausible issue. It doesn't follow a steady decline in SNR. The occasional SNR spiking, jumping or flapping is not a sign of crosstalk affects. It's a usual steady decline. (The spiking has stopped on the upstream, downstream it happens sometimes albeit on a smaller scale now.)

HG633 Stats:

Downstream line rate (kbit/s):

Maximum upstream rate (kbit/s):

Maximum downstream rate (kbit/s):

Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB):
4.5
Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB):
7
Upstream interleave depth:

Downstream interleave depth:

Upstream line attenuation (dB):

Downstream line attenuation (dB):

Upstream output power (dBm):
2.5
Downstream output power (dBm):

Channel type:

DSL up-time:

As you can see the downstream has a high applied amount of interleaving at 1877 but the upstream is fine at the usual 1. You would think the upstream would be interleaved too.

I'm under the impression this may be due to an issue between or inside the DSLAM which is ECI and my HG633. An issue inside the DSLAM is what I'm thinking.

So if an OCE can check the line with some tests and perhaps ask the network team if they can see anything at all. I'd greatly appreciate it. This is so odd and not typical line behaviour for me. It's usually very good.

My service despite impacted and going through a very odd patch. I can stream videos, online game and do all the regular stuff fine with little issue. And it doesn't constantly reboot or resync so I'm lucky there...

But the fact remains that it's not right at all and I would like this investigated anyhow please.

*** If you see any past disconnections it was probably me rebooting the router (Once, that I know won't upset DLM) Any others could be initiated by DLM itself. ***

Thank you!
