HG663 UDP packet loss with PS4 companion app (pCARS Dash for Project CARS)

My previous TalkTalk super router (not sure what model number) was fine, but my new HG663 seems to have a real problem delivering UDP packets from PS4 to Android and iOS devices. I use companion apps running on Android tablets and iPhones to display telemetry data while playing Project CARS on PS4.

With my old router the information would update smoothly and consistently (eg the needle of an analogue rev counter would appear to move smoothly, but it now jerks and stutters) and I estimate updates are now only being received by the devices about 3 or 4 times a second. Somebody on another forum suggested looking for a 'UDP flood protection' toggle in the router firewall settings, but if there is one there, I cannot find it. The options available are:

  • ICMP flood protecting
  • SYN flood protecting
  • ARP attack protecting

and all are ticked (by default).

Firmware of the router is up to date, the companion apps are all up to date and set up as recommended.

The router just seems to be either sending UDP data REALLY slowly (like, 3-4 times a second) or lots of packets are getting dropped, maybe by buffer overload, who knows.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
