Fibre Large Broadband Speed Issue

$

Hi hope anyone can help,

I have had fibre large for a while with not much issues, aside from few dropouts (usually at 2:00am in morning). Recently (over last 2 months) I have noticed a big flactuation in the maxmium speed output from my home network. I really dont know what it is? Ever since upgrading router to the HG633 vdsl router/modem is a possiblity? Or Just I am not sure if a profile change from your end could help too?

I have been monitoring this for the last couple months and tried not to take notice of it. But its to a point now were we stream a lot of content of iPlayer, YouTube and on demand services. My son also plays videogames and the buffer and lags is bad! Download speeds for large previosuly was hitting 74mbs (76mbps is what TalkTalk estimates) and Upload at around 17mbps. Now these numbers are half. And it just doesnt seem fair paying more for speeds we aint getting?

So it would be so kind if anyone could help me? Or any of the OCE can help thank you!

"Fibre unavailable" despite already having it

I am curently with plusnet and have fibre and wish to switch to TalkTalk

According to the TalkTalk site fibre is unavilable in my area, and an advisor I contacted through the onsite chat even said that my excange "had not yet been upgraded" despite being both upgraded and unbundled (mening that I should be able to get it even if TalkTalk needs to install 3rd party hardwere)

My question is WHY can't I get TalkTalk fibre despite already having a fibre connecton?

p.s. I plan to  switch to TalkTalk regardless even if that means reverting to ASDL1 I just want to know why I would have to

HG633 port forwarding stops after a few hours, until router reboot

I have set up port forwarding for port 21 on my new HG633. I have a Freecom NAS connected by Ethernet cable with a static IP.

Everything works fine for a few hours, maybe 24 hours, then port 21 closes and I can no longer FTP to my NAS.

Rebooting the router fixes the issue. My previous Hauwei router had no problems. Any advice? Thanks

Reverting from Fibre optic to standard broadband.

After some persuasion from a TT agent I ordered fibre optic broadband. It went live on 8th March but I quickly found, contrary to previous assurances, that it did not support my CCTV security system which requires a static IP address.

I cancelled firbre optic on the same day (8th March) and was told that my standard broadband would be reinstated within 48 hours.

I didn't happen and I was then told that the matter had been escalated but it would take 5 days. The 5 days came and went and I was told that it would be chased up. Still nothing happened. I phoned yesterday and was again told it would take 5 days.

I am a patient person and I fully accept that things can go wrong but this is now beyond a joke.

My security system is very important to me and at present is practically useless and TT should ensure that prospective fibre optic users are made aware of the system's shortcomings.

Can something be done to speed things up? Or must I take my business elsewhere?

Cannot establish WPS connection between HG633 router and powerline wifi extenders

Hi,

I have a Huawei HG633 router from TalkTalk, and bought a new set of powerline adapters / wifi extenders by TP-LINK, specifically TL-WPA4226KIT + 2 * TL-WPA4220 (I want 3 extenders in specific locations in the house). I want to enable seamless roaming through the house with the router's network SSID, not have multiple SSIDs in different parts of the house.

I have connected these to YouView boxes in each room and the wired connection works fine, but the wireless signal is still identified as the default from the powerline adapters. I am wary of setting my devices to "connect automatically" to these separate networks in case they have trouble when connected to 2 networks at once.

So I followed the guidance in the TP-LINK leaflet, to press WPS on the router for 2 seconds then press the Wi-Fi clone on the powerline adapter within 2 minutes, but the light on the adapter never changes from slow blinking to rapid blinking, which indicates WPS has not been established, and sure enough, the adapter's default network SSID still shows as an available network on my laptop, rather than the router's SSID.

I have tried downloading the TP-LINK Powerline Utility for my adapter and using a wired connection, but the utility cannot find the adapter. But I should not need to go down this route anyway.

I have logged into the router itself wirelessly and confirmed WPS is enabled, and both 2.4 GB and 5 GB are enabled.

So I am stuck! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am even willing to consider using an installation service to get it working, if there is a reasonably priced one. I have spent enough time on this already!

Many Thanks,

Keith.

HG633 RDP

Have upgraded to the HG633 router and am on firmware v1.15t. I use a VPN service that allows me to connect via RDP to a server at work. This worked fine until I installed this router, but no longer allows me to remote on to my server at work. If I put my old router back, all is ok so it is 100% this router that is stopping me from connecting via RDP out, which I find a little odd.

Has anyone else got issues? I think I may just bin it and buy a decent router but wondered if there was any firmware update out there I could try?

Cheers.

I'm on Fibre Large, only 50 meters away from the Exchange and green boxes.

Started of at 70 -80 mb download 20 upload

Now it's max 30 mb download and ranges from 6 - 18 mb upload.

I thought it was a blip but this has been the case for weeks now.

Please advise.

HG533 router hacked?

$

I receive a periodic email Newsletter from Saverpoint.com, a computer supplies company which I have dealt with over several years, so I have no reason to doubt their legitimacy.

About two weeks ago I received their latest email, but when I opened it in Outlook 2013, all the images were missing and apart from the surrounding text I had a screenful of red 'x'' placeholders.

This happens from time to time on any message, where not all parts of the message arrive at the expected time so the mail reader cannot recreate the original email.  I then clicked on the link to display the content in my web browser.  However, instead of the Newsletter I was directed to various unwanted pages giving me spurious 'investment opportunities', or casino type sites, or others offering me 'business advice'.

Initially I presumed that I had picked up some sort of malware, though this issue only affected this one Newsletter.  Earlier issues which had previously displayed correctly now had this new behaviour.  I then fully scanned my Windows 10 PC with Avast antivirus, Spybot and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.  All are up to date, but all found no issues.

I then tried to open the same emails on my iPad, linked by Wi-Fi to my router and got the same problem.

This seemed to indicate that it was not simply a problem on my PC, which only connects by ethernet.

I emailed the sending company which carried out tests and reported back to say that they had found no problems with the embedded links, which as normal do include a tracking tag.  They also supplied me with a clean link to the Newsletter on their website, but again this gave me the unwanted webpages on both PC and iPad.

The only common factor then seeemed to be my Router (TalkTalk supplied HG533) so I accessed my neighbour's router  (with permission!) with my iPad and once more the Newsletters and supplied link worked perfectly.

I then reset my router to the factory defaults and reset my router and Wi-Fi passwords - and once again I could read the emails without problem.

Unfortunately it has not proved to be a final solution, as today I received the next issue of the Newsletter - and once more the images are missing and all links take me to other sites on both PC & iPad.  Linking to my neighbour's Wi-Fi restores the images.

When I opened the email this time, I get the attached warning - I can provide the full url if needed, but am loathe to do so here in case it leads others astray.  However, the url shown is reported by a 'Whois' enquiry to belong to this company -

My PC is switched off when not in use, but I do have a NAS drive attached to the router so I have now switched this off as well to prevent access.

If this is a router hack, it seems strange that only one email Newsletter is affected.  Saverpoint customer service department tell me that they have had only one other report of such a problem, but at the time could not resolve it.  They now wonder if my additional research might help the other affected user.

In case there may be some helpful information on the router I haven't reset anything at present and will await suggestions.

DDNS on the HG633 not working (with Duck DNS)

Keith and others,

If anyone can help me please in trying to get DDNS working with my TT HG633 router I'd be very grateful. I'm loathed to have to buy another router just because the one that TT supplied me with does not do what I understand it should do.

I hope TT can fix this problem for me as the functionality of the router suggests it should handle DDNS although it appears this may not be working correctly.

I have entered carefully all information into the router admin setup, as can be seen in the attached screenshot.

Regards,

Alex

VPN Issues - HG633 firmware update?

$

0

Hi - I'm having issues connecting to my University VPN, and have basically narrowed the problem down to either my router (HG633) or something on TalkTalk's side of the network.  I notice from searching the forum that numerous people have had the exact same problem, and that upgrading to firmware 1.16 resolved this.

I factory reset the router hoping that it would automatically update, however I'm stuck on 1.15 and see no way to force an update manually (or flash a downloaded copy). Please can someone push the latest firmware revision to my router?

Cheers

Mark
