HG633 Issues

Hi there,

Firstly, a little about myself. Im a wireless network engineer who designs/installs wireless networks for a living. Mostly using Ruckus equipment but have a good knowledge of cisco etc so i know my way round most wireless networking issues and the problems that can arise with RF 'noise'

I have Talk Talk medium fibre - 30mb  down - 2mb up

Now down to my problem. I have a HG633 at home on the latest firmware. Im having issues with the 5GHz radio inside the router and think its faulty. the 2.4GHz spectrum in my area (i live in a block of flats) is very noise and really saturated with about 20 different SSID's sharing most of the 2.4 channels. they seem to be spread all over the 2.4 range and not following the 1,6,11 non overlapping channels which is best practise. This is causing slow speeds due to interference on my devices.

Because of this, i have set up the 5GHz radio with a separate SSID from the 2.4GHz radio and channel bonded it up to 80MHz wide channels. this should give me a theorectical data rate of up to 450mbps but i am only getting a data rate of up to 54mbps. I have also set the channel in the 5GHz radio to stay at channel 108 but it keeps dropping back down to channel 36 on its own. I set it to channel 108 because there are no other WLANS in this area when i use my spec an. When on channel 108, i am getting 24mbps wireless download speeds as there is no noise/interference on or near these channels. The router then seems to drop me back down to channel 36 where there are other WLANS and dropping my wireless download speeds back down to around 9mbps which is unacceptable.

So as i said earlier, i think my 5GHz radio is buggered. Changing channels in 5GHz on its own after ive specified it to be on channel 108. only gving me a data rate of 54mbps when channel bonded to 80mhz wide channels where it should theoretically be upto 450mbps with 802.11ac

I would like a replacement if possible?

Thanks

Dom
