Folks,
Can someone help me configure my AVM FRITZ!Box 7490 router for use with TalkTalk's fibre optic broadband?
I've tried the settings shown here: http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/how-do-i-setup-router-thats-not-talktalk. As far as I can make out, I’ve input all the settings correctly, though I couldn’t find anywhere to set DNS Settings as ‘automatic’, or Modulation Type ‘auto’. Also, the only place I could find an MTU setting was in the IPv6 section. Is this correct? I’ve also set VLAN ID as 101, something I found on the web. I also read you should set the annex to ‘B’ , but I’ve tried both to no avail.
I've since been told (by an AVM engineer) that PPPoA is only for ADSL connections, so am I using the wrong settings? As it was TalkTalk who pointed me to that link, I presume not.
According to the FRITZ!Box, it can find the connection to the internet, but can’t get a connection to the TalkTalk server. The Internet Connection Event Log tells me I’m getting 'Timeout during PPP negotiation’ errors.
I’m running firmware version 06.20. I believe there’s a newer one, which I’ll update to as soon as I can get the FRITZ!Box onto the net. My TalkTalk router hasn't yet arrived, so I can't go online using the TalkTalk device as a modem and the FRITZ!Box as a router to update. :-(
If anyone can shed any light on this, I'd be grateful.
Ian
