DNS and WiFi issues

Hi,

Business customer here, with an HG635 router.

I recently started having problems with Wireless devices accessing the Internet. I initially thought it was an Apple problem, as it started with an Apple T V, a couple of iPhones, and an iPad; however it has since also occured on other wireless devices including a laptop and a new Tonie box (https://tonies.com).

Anyway, wireless devices are able to conect to the Wi-Fi and see devices on the local network (plus I can visit 192.168.1.1 and access the router itself), but aren't able to browse the web. Setting a manual DNS server on the device itself fixes the problem, but setting this on the router does not (for reference I've been using 208.67.222.222 and 8.8.8.8).

I've checked and it appears my router is up to date (for reference remote management is on, and current firmware version is v1.11ttb), and I;ve also tried resetting the router by leaving it unplugged for 30 minutes (as similar threads have this as a recommended step to try).

So I'm fairly certain that the problem is DNS-related, but can't for the life of me se how or why! Can anyone advise? Is it possibly a router fault?

Thanks,

Ben

Broadband Speed

Have run the broadband speed test on the TalkTalk site and got the result:

Download 3.84Mbs

Upload     0.57Mbs

What has happened to the Fastfibre I am paying for? the speed test reported I should be getting a guaranteed minimum speed of 7Mbs. Could this be looked into asap?

fibre speed slowed down ?

Hi, ive made a note now, of a few occasions when the broadband speed has dropped so low we are not able to watch tv through apps on the box. on the 05/12/20 19.06 it dropped to 7.42mb ( normal 60 - 70mb ) and on the 20/12/20 21.19 to 5.5mb. this was tested on the talk talk site.

I only notice the drop because the apps will freeze & buffer making anything unwatchable. the last time, there were no other gadgets on using bandwidth, only the tv box connected via Lan ( down to 1mb on the TV )

My question is, because we are big data users with computers, tablets, two PlayStations, using masses of data these days for the games, is the broadband speed being reduced ? I know TalkTalk say unlimited data use, but whenever I check online it says my line is fine, and there are no connection problems, only a warning that my data usage is high, but the speed test says 5mb ! the next day, it will be back to normal speeds 60 - 70mb and everything works as it should.

very annoying when it happens,

How long does upgrade from 38Mb -> 65Mb take?

I have changed from "standard" 38Mb service to 65 Mb however nothing has changed so far.

How long does this normally take and are we notified when the change has taken place?

DG8041W Kernel Panic

On upgrading to Fibre 65 I received a new DG8041W router. Initially kept rebooting with Kernel Panic error in log. Reset to factory settings after speaking to TalkTalk but speed had dropped to only around 35Mbps I presumed because of all the dropped connections. Speed increased to over 40Mbps now but router has started rebooting again with Kernel Panics in log. Happened so many times today I have switched back to the HG635 router that is stable and getting over 40 Mbps. This sounds like I have received a fault router?

Intermittent Broadband

For the last week or so we have experienced an intermittent broadband connection, this occurs on the wired or wireless connections. There doesn't appear to be any pattern to it. We have reset the router and this helps for a while. I don't know if this is coincidence but we upgraded to the faster fibre package and since then it feels like it has definitely been more unreliable. If I use the service center this shows no issue with my connection, I am wondering if it is an issue with the router?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Having router problems.

Also the router is not updated. I've had this router for 6 months and Talktalk says it does not recognise it. It's from TalkTalk!

I seem to have good speed online but an unstable connection.

Poor Fibre 65 speeds

Hi,

We have been experiencing consistent poor Internet speeds. So as a result of this we have recently upgraded to fibre 65 but speeds are now worse than they were before. We have completed speed test that shows the problem is from router to device, however, our device is hard wired to the router. This leads us to believe thst our router may be faulty as we have had it for 5 plus years. Please could we have a new one to try?

Thank You

Waiting on new line installation for 3 months!!

I moved into a new house at the end of September and ordered my home move on 19th September and still no broadband. The go live date was 28th September. Every time I ring you chat to Openreach and they say the line is still in planning and you accept this. How come 2 neighbours have moved in 2 months after me and are connected or are in the process of being connected? I already have a complaint in which means you ring me every few days and waste my time telling me I will get an update in another few days. I know you are reliant on openreach but every agent just wants to accepts what they are told and doesn't want to take things any further. Took weeks for it to be escaled to openreach but that still hasn't done anything. Absolute joke!!! I have already complained to openreach because a talk talk agent told me they weren't allowed to raise a complaint against them but they are just as useless. They send engineers out to the other properties without any prior notification that there are capacity issues and additional lines need laid. Can someone please look at into this for me?

My wifi dropping off every 5 min. Cannot use anything

Extremely low broadband speeds

I’m a new customer with talk talk and I’ve recently bought Fiber 65, however it was great for the first week and for the past 2-3 weeks my download speed has been between 0.1 and 0.6 mbps, I’ve tried all things such as restarting my router and checking all cables are attached fully, I’m wondering if there’s anything else I can do to help my speeds. I’m really not impressed.

Can’t get Fibre 65 but can get Fibre 35?

Any ideas as to why I can get Fibre 35 no issue but apparently Fibre 65 isn’t available in my area? They both work the same through the same routine just have different download speeds...?!

Moved house - have I been put on the right package?

Hi
I've just moved house and was getting about 70Mb
I put a house move through and was put into Fibre 65 which made sense by now I've received my welcome information, the maximum speed is 30Mb. I think this might be the maximum speed available

If I can only get 30Mb, shouldn't I be on Fibre 35 rather than 65?

Talktalk ACCIDENTALLY cancelled my fibre package. Now I got to wait till after 5th jan with 4 kids

1) i had talktalk fibre broadband package and went live without an engineer having to come  out and was earlier than initially stated by a day or two. HOWEVER talktalk accidentally cancelled my account sending me an email saying that "WERE SORRY YOU'RE LEAVING US " after a third party cancellation notice ... this was news to me .... so we had the Internet going for a few weeks however not noticing that last week as was working away from home ... finally got them to have to renew the account having to start the whole process again rather than just apologise for the mistake and correcting it back to live account...now I'm at home with 4 kids and all the 4 Tvs, 4 Xbox all phones and tablets all 8 alexa devices and smart switches , door bell , and everything a family needs is not working ... CHRISTMAS IS FRIDAY AND NON OF THEIR PRESENTS WILL WORK..... as got to wait in total 3 weeks from the 14th of December to the 5th of January for an engineer appointment (THAT I DIDNT NEED LAST TIME SO WHATS CHANGED) AND A ROUTER delivered for the 4th ...we still have the 8 week old router plugged in so don't need that either ... we were connected on before ... WHY THE DELAY AND THE ABSOLUTE HORROR OF PANIC AND ANXIETY your giving me about Christmas period and how terrible you are making it for our children , through your mistakes, we can't even go round families houses to fill any awfully boring days as were not allowed with the covid restrictions....HEEEELLLP ME

Guaranteed speed not met and Line test not working

$

Hi,

I'm on Faster Fibre, with a guaranteed speed of 56MBps

For the past 3 days I've been getting internet disconnects, my speed is 29Mbps, and it says that the speed to my router is 29Mbps and that is has been for a while.  It suggests I run the live connection test as it says "We suspect an issue with your broadband", but it gets to the stage where it asks for my mobile number, starts the line test and then just restarts and asks for my mobile number again.

There is no way of directly contacting Talktalk on the help pages, which I find rather disappointing.

Please advise.

Thank you.
