Ping spikes

Recently i have been suffering from high ping spikes or "lag spikes" where the connection becomes awful for 2-3 seconds, this is not a problem for ordinary browsing but as i play online games bad connection even for very short periods can be very annoying. I bought a new NETGEAR router hoping that it would fix the problem but had no success and am currently on the super talktalk router HG633. I have also tried various fixes like resetting the router, reinstalling drivers, factory resets etc. In addition i have spent alot of time pinging and checking for a pattern with the ping spikes but have had no luck. Finally i can confirm that it is not a wireless adapter problem or router problem so i am seeking help from talktalk. Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to set up port forwarding on the rounter to view my cctv cameras online, I can't work out what the settings need to be, can anyone point me in the right dirrection to get it working.

Hi maybe Keith French/paul123edwards can help with this one...?

I have a 635 router and would like to be able to block certain mac address' at certain times of the day ..primarily evenings from internet access.

I could do this on tiscali ( although i used a bt homehub router) on broadband ,

I upgraded to super fast broadband ( partial fibre) & now got a h635 router G1.10 hware s/w version v106t.

I did notice a post on 22/4/16 but I wonder if you could help me in this

Hi there. Had fibre for a few months now, was very happy with the service and for the past two weeks. The internet has disconnected every 20-30 mins all day long. Can't stream anything, can't play anything online. Tried every kind of reset possible. Including factory resets of the router. Check downdetector.co.uk everyday and the amount of people having the exact same issue is a complete joke. What are TalkTalk doing? Are they so blind they can't see how much they are failing the majority of their customers. I refuse to phone their customer support ever again as it's an even bigger joke. But i see there are many threads regarding this issue. I also see barely anything has been done for them either so I don't know what to expect here either.

Cisco VPN not working with HG633 WIFI

Please help! My Cisco VPN does not work through WIFI. It works through LAN cabl. Since I rang TalkTalk technical support, they told me they cannot do anything and they pointed me to my VPN provider. I have been chasing my IT help desk and they have done everything they can. The problem seems to come from the Internet provider (talktalk).

I have seen in some posts an upgraded firmware solves this issue. I have been trying to contact by phone with talktalk but customer service is useless.

I have been trying to contact by chat with somebody in talktalk community and no response.

I don't know whatelse to do. Could somebody help me?

I recently upgraded when I received an email from talktalk saying they could suply me with fibre at an estimated speed of between 7 and 11 meg.

I jumped at the oportunity as I was only getting 2 meg on ordinary broadband and at a distance of 4 miles from my exchange and 2 miles from the cabinet it seemed toogood to be true.

The engineer arrived and said yes the connection was good enough. On speed test I got 6 meg which was a quite good initial test. However over the next few days the speed dropped to just under 3 meg

Over the next 3 weeks, and a few calls to technical help, the speed has improved to just under 7 meg which I think is very good considering the distance.

All my communications with talktalk have been dealt with very quickly and professionally.A lot better than another big telecom company whom I had to contact for another property.With them I had to queue for at least half an hour each time and then got passed from one department to another. I also got cut off at least four times while queuing.

Reliability issues

For the last week I've been experiencing long bouts of complete unreliability from my broadband service. I can't connect to websites, get lots of ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED & ERR_CONNECTION_RESET errors from Chrome, Netflix streams stop and buffer seemingly forever. I've tried everything - rebooting the router either through the dashboard or manually doesn't help. Flushing my DNS or even changing the DNS server settings to OpenDNS, Google or back again doesn't resolve the issue either. Windows Network Diagnostics show no errors.

I'm getting really sick of TalkTalk's offering, especially as we've been informed the prices are now going up.

After the great help in resolving my previous speed issues I've seen speeds drop once more to nowhere near the advertised capacity of 39Mbps - according to SamKnows my average last month was 28.8Mbps.

It's even taken me several attempts and a router reboot to post this! Please help.

I've had fibre with talk talk now for 3 months, and my patience has finally run out - the HG633 router is giving me nothing but grief, having borrowed a neighbours router and modem to test, my speeds doubled and my connection remained stable. Alas after giving back the testing kit and reinstalling the HG633, my speed is back down to 20mbps (on a really really good day) but averaging <3mbps wired - According to the openreach engineer, the proximity of the exchange means I should be able to receive at least my 40mbps I pay for (the connection to the house being rated at 77mbps according to their stats). Frequent drops in connection result in a frustrating and painful experience. Had I had known this would be the case, I wouldn't have stumped the extra cash for Fibre, as atleast my normal copper connection was stable! The idea behind upgrading to fibre was being able to use more than 1 device at a time, however this seems to choke the router. I have also noted a substantial proportion of erroneous packets on both wireless frequencies and wired.

I've tried a number of the suggestions mentioned on this forum but have had no improvement in overall performance. I am on the verge of going to buy a new router to replace the calamitous HG633, however the significant numbers having issues on these forums, I feel like I would be letting Talk Talk off the hook. I would like to try a HG635 however it would seem that they are unwilling to give these to customers!

I have recently signed up to TalkTalk and have been on Superfast Broadband for around 3 weeks. The problem is my Huawei HG633 keeps dropping connection during the evening and night time. Is there a setting on the router which may fix this ? Its so annoying whilst watching netflix etc. Please can somebody help me.

Hi been trying to get wake on lan to work via iPhone over 3G ....is it possible ......working no probs over wifi within home network but over 3G no good.
its as if the magic packets don't get through the router .....which I have portforwarded etc ...
looked at all the tips etc. But still not working .....port shows open when. Pc is on but closed when pc off
any help appreciated

Hello, hope I am posting this in the right forum as I can't find one particularly on medium fibre.

I went over to Fibre Medium about 4 months ago as Talk Talk told me it would solve all my problems after I was having very slow speeds with their normal broadband (whiich was steady but very slow). Now since going over to Medium Fibre it's actually created more problems than ever. Constantly dropping, cutting of with speeds between 1mbps and 17mbps but most of the time being less that 10. They have sent me three new routers in 4 months, the third one which I received a couple of days ago (exactly the same router as the last one), they keep telling me it is fixed but it isn't. They sent a BT Open Reach engineer couple of months ago and he got it working to 30mbps download speed, I was happy for two days then it dropped back down to 2 - 10mbps again. I don't understand Talk Talk CS at all and I don't think they even understand their own broadband - I mean £20 a month for download speeds between 1 and 17 mbps - and most of the time below 10 - it's a joke really. I don't know what else I can do.

With the new router it is more steady now and so far i haven't experienced any more drop offs but it's still not as fast as it should be (or I was led to believe it would be when I took this out). The last day or two it has constantly been at 17mpbs - and this is either by wifi connection or by ethernet connection (there is not a lot of difference), today it is between 12 and 15mpbs.

Is this the most I should expect from medium fibre from Talk Talk or should it actually be going up to around 30mpbs? Anyone help please?

Hi,

Over the last 4 weeks or so my connection spped had dramatically dropped.

For the last 18 months or so I used to get a consistant 28mb connection and it was usually reliable.

I now get constant speed issues and keep having to reste my router (HG635 V1.06t).

Connections now range from 8mb to 19mb but is very unreliable.

I tried ringing customer services for a new router but gor fobbed off with the old "they should last upto 10 years sir" - no use what so ever.

Can you please do a line check and send me a new router ?

Hi,

I am on the SamKnows broadband checker programme and on the 2nd of October I experienced an large amount of issues with my router switching itself off and intermittent connection. That particular problem seemed to rectify itself but I have been moitoring the diagotics I get back from SamKnows and I can see that I have had a near 20Mbps drop since the 2nd October (from 74 down to 56) and I sometimes see a packet loss of greater than 1%. I have borrowed another router which doesnt seem to like my phone and I can actually get my router to switch off by trying to do a backup to my phone (ended up having to do it over 4G network). I have a feeling that these issues are not connected but I would like to know why there is a drastic speed reduction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I currently have a pair of wired powerline adapters which work no problem. I also have a detached garage on the same ring main (albeit a spur plug) and would like to extend my wifi signal out to here as it currently doesn't reach.

Can I therefore just add a wifi powerline adapter to the circuit and, if so, is it possible to buy these individually rather than the pair advertised in the talk talk shop ?

Hi,

I have been trying to change my wireless channel but when I go to http://192.168.1.1

it says to log in with the default password and user name which is admin but when I try it says that it is incorrect. I've tried putting in the router name and password that is on the back of the router as well but with no luck.

any help would be great.
