Best 3rd party 'Mid Priced Range' Fibre Router 2017
I know similar various versions of this question have been asked before, however this is now a fresh new one for what I am asking as of 19th Feb 2017.
I am asking about the best 3rd party brands & Model numbers of Mid Price Range FTTC (Fibre) routers, not budget priced or high end priced one's, there may even be new one's out in the past late months of 2016 and now into 2017 too, who knows, but the date of the router release doesn't always make a lot of difference sometimes as you know.
They have to obviously be fully compatible with TalkTalk Fibre, able to easily cope with Talktalk Fast Fibre 80Mbps, and also 'TalkTalk TV Plus' too, very easy to set up would be nice.
I would be 'hoping' that they can perform much better in Ethernet wired connection's and also a much much better speed and distance range/quality on wireless too than the two currently available talktalk Fibre routers (D-Link 3782 & Huawei HG633), as I say, I would be hoping, I know nothing is guaranteed especially with TalkTalk and BT Openreach.
Anyone that cares to comment about 3rd party routers, could you please mention brand names and the model numbers together with your reasons why you consider the one or one's you suggest to be a great choice, help's a whole lot I guess if you have actually tried the routers you have mentioned, although if it's one you have been told about then please say so too.
Any links etc directly to the router web pages would be very much appreciated.
Thank You.
Very poor fibre performance
Hi
I hope that you're well.
I'm currently on the SimplyBroadband with Superpowered Fibre package and have noticed that my download speeds are decreasing.
About 1.5 years ago, I had issues with my broadband speeds but these were eventually sorted out by various OpenReach engineers.
My setup is as follows:
OpenReach modem > TalkTalk HG635 (1.06t firmware) > SamKnows box
I should be getting around 70Mbs but I'm luck if I'm getting 10Mbs at the moment.
I've attached the SamKnows graph showing the downstream speeds for the previous 6 months. As you can see, around 24 January the speeds started decreasing.
I've ran some speed checks today using the TalkTalk test and the latest results are:
Latency: 29ms
Download: 9.91
Upload: 12.56
I'm connected directly to the BT socket with no other devices on the network.
I have tried resetting all of the modems and routers but this hasn't caused any speed increases.
I've checked for noise of the line using a handset and there isn't any noise.
Please can you help me resolve this issue.
Cheers
Moosh
Wifi dropping with PS4 streaming (NOW TV app, etc.) + v.slow wifi
Dear,
I have been having issues with my router, my wifi keeps dropping everytime I use it to stream content via PS4 and NOW TV. Recently TalkTalk engineer visited and replace wall socket and tested the connection and everything seemed OK.
The problem however resisted only when using PS4 to stream content from NOW TV for example. It keeps dropping at every 5-10 minutes. Yesterday, to troubleshoot the issue, I stopped streaming on the PS4 after like the 9th drop, and instead immediatly continued on my iPad, the dropping stopped and wifi connection was seamless.
Please note that when i say the wifi drops, it litrearly drops from all devices for about a minute or two, then comes back up and running. Without streaming from my PS4, this no longer happens. This has been very frusturating behavior.
Please also note that this issue was posted before and resolved at:
We also struggle with a speed issue, and I am not sure if you are able to help me with it here or if I should contact support. Our wifi speed is so low with the new router. Speed is about 15-25mbps, compared to 50mbps when we had the older router at our previous flat. Speed is not an issue when I connect my computer directly via ethernet which gives me 60mbps, however the wifi performance is very poor. I have tried all the advice on your general help section, the router is directly connected to the wall socket and I have tried various wifi channels. Nothing seems to work.
Please advise.
Many thanks!

HG633 Firmware upgrade
Hi, Would it be possible to upgrade the firmware on my HG633 to firmware 1.16t,.
Don't really know what I'm talking about but having read forum posts it looks like the 1.16 upgrade is the most stable for wireless and gaming connections. My family all connect wirelessly including PS4 and XBox one, so I really need the best connection possible to stop all wars and make my life peaceful lol.
If there is a better firmware than the 1.16t please upgrade to that one if possible.
Many thanks
Dee
Poor Internet Speed
I'm on fibre up to 30mbps but my download speed is terrible. Upload seems to be fine.
Not really had any issues before. Any ideas what the problem might be?
Unusable Fibre for over a week now - How can I get this looked at by a real person?
Hi Support,
I have raised a fault on my line which has prevented me from being able to use fibre for over a week now. All i have received is a text to say you have not found the cause of the issue yet, but will get back as soon as you can.
I have done all of the "regular" troubleshooting including replacing the router but the issue is the same. Noisy line and Intermittent Sync.....
Can you please advise how I can arrange for an engineer to attend asap and get this sorted?
help and advice needed for a newbie
Hello all,
Have just joined TT or i should be shortly. Leaving BT after many many years purely on the grounds of cost as being a pensioner everything helps.
I am on the 52mb service and regularly get an average speed of 50,ibelieve the line will cope with more but i dont need superfast.
I also have the BT youview box which works in exlempary fashion.
I have not ordered TT tv as yet just the 38mb fibre phone and mobile.
The engineer is coming on monday 27th to set up whatever he has to do.
A couple of quebtions if i may/
Firstly will the HH5 work with TT as plug and play or will i be needing to change all sorts of settings or maybe not at all. Also do i need to disconnect it out of the way before the engineers arrival.
Secondly although i have not ordered TV as yet will the BT youview box work normally if i do.
Anything else you may comment on that i should be aware of would be greatly appreciated.
I must point out i am not a tech geek so simplicity is key.
Thanking you all in advance. Ernie.

Less than 0.2mb/s fibre - please help.
Hi, a couple of days ago, my fibre broadband speeds dropped from ~35mb/s to < 0.2mb/s.
It may be a red-herring, but it happened shortly after I started using Google Photo Sync. Otherwise, I can't think of any change my end. EDIT TO ADD: Google Photo Sync has been disabled since I noticed the problem, all tests have been done without Google Sync. Could be a red-herring, but I mentioned it because I wondered if I'd been throttled as a result of this change...
I've tried pinging Google. I get good ping latency, but packets frequently dropped. I am able to ping other machines on my home network and there are no dropouts, which leads me to believe that my PC and connection to the router (and other connections in my home environment) are fine. I can transfer files between my machines no problem, but browsing the internet is nigh-on impossible. Even this site is almost unusable whilst I type this very message!
The slowness affects all machines on the network (wireless and ethernet). I have tried removing all machines and only plugging a single laptop onto the router, but this made no difference.
In an effort to resolve, I have factory reset the router, thinking maybe the router/router config. was the issue. I have also disabled the 5GHz wireless radio on the router, although I didn't think that would make any difference (and it didn't).
I haven't had much time to look into it, due to home commitments, etc. I am reaching out for help.
What information do you need? What more can I try? Is there someone from TalkTalk I can speak to?

IPv6 Support
I am aware that this has been asked about before, but it appears that peoples requests have fallen on deaf ears as IPv6 is still not available. Worse than that however, there appear to be no plans to make it available to customers!
TalkTalk are burying their head in the sand if they think this is going to go away; similarly, waiting until it's declared an issue by Ofcom isn't a sensible strategy either.
Almost all of the smaller ISP's and many of the larger ISP's (BT and Sky most notably) have already completed their IPv6 rollout. Virgin Media are due to follow in mid-2017
I hope someone from TT can come back to this community with some information. Failing that, I will not be renewing my contract with TalkTalk when the time comes.
Notes:
- Yes, I have a genuine need for IPv6 connectivity.
- I'm well aware it has no bearing on the number of devices my network can support.
- Yes, I'm aware that there are only a small minority of 'IPv6 only' websites.
If you too believe that TalkTalk are not being proactive enough in communicating with their customers on this issue, or making efforts to implement IPv6, then please call them up, post on this forum or send a message to Ofcom. It seems they'll only take notice once their bottom line is impacted.
Speed constantly below minimum gauranteed - Fibre Medium.
Hi there.
Basically i've been a TalkTalk customer for a while now as in my previous property i had just standard internet no fibre package. However i moved house and upgraded to fibre for faster speeds and since the 19/07/2016 i've only been getting 2-3 MB's per second when my minimum gauranteed is 7.9 as displayed on the welcome information.
This 2-3 MB's i'm getting now and have been from day one is the exact same i got on standard internet, which is what's so frustrating. I've rang a couple times, been on the online chat more times than i can even remember given "assurance" that in 24 hours it will be resolved when it just never happens and to this day it's still not resolved. Its come to the point i feel i may have to switch my service although if this can get resolved then happy days i'm more than happy to stick to TalkTalk providing i get the speeds i'm paying for.
Thank's.
Line profile change, disable DLM
Hi,
i have had issued with constant drop-out's since i joined (service credits please...) with the supplied super (crap) hg633 router. random disconnects from the internet around 5 a day and ADSL status shows 'unavaliable' i have read about all the wifi issues users have been having, the campaign where people where getting new routers that was then postponed. so i decided to pay out and get a decent draytek router. all set up however when i first joined i was getting the top speed and a tiny bit over. my line quality seems fine my router reports max attainable line speed would be just over 40Mbps. i had to powercycle the old router every time it dropped out so i assume this has presented itself as errors to the DLM and been constantly reducing my speed. now i have a decent router in place can you set my line profile back to the fastest. if i have any issues ill soon let you know

Very poor download speeds and frequent intermittent sync
So since i've had the talk talk service the speed has been very poor. but in recent weeks its been at 1MB, i pay for the fastest service.
i've done all the help gizmo's i've tried a wired connection, ive tried a wireless connection, its always around 1MB.
a few weeks ago it kicked in properly and i was getting correct download speeds so i'm really unsure whats gone wrong.
I also get frequent intermittent sync, especially on weekends or if using the PS4 to stream.
This is the current report from my router:
Fibre is a Joke, keeps dropping
Hi, I;ve been a long time customer of TalkTalk however over the last 1 month since i renewed my contract withyou guys i keep on getting the Error reference: Intermittent Sync. Its happening atleast a few times a day and getting really frustrated with it.
Please advise
