VPN problem with D Link 3782 router

Hi,

I am new to the community. I have been advised to post my problem here by both the Taltalk t chat line and complaints manager.

Since getting a new router (D link 3782), I have been unable to connect to my laptop usng my VPN. I had no problems with any of my previous routers but unfortunately have not got the old one to reconnect with. I can see from the forum that there are lot of issues with VPN. Can someone help with this please??

As I work for hospitals, I need the added security from VPN to access my laptop.

Trying to understand what went wrong?

Hi,

We had a weird issue last night that led to over 1 1/2 hours on Chat with Technical.  The final solution didn't appear to solve things (as I'll show), but this morning the line is better.  I'm just trying to understand what may have happened and why it took until this morning to see results?

We have Fibre on the 70/20 profile. This normally copes fines with all streaming etc. usage with last night as an example - Netflix was being streamed to 2 devices, Amazon Prime video to another, with surfing etc. going on alongside that. Then last night, everything suddenly died.

The router still said that the connection was good, and the media server I have attached straight into the router was showing that it had an internet connection (Network and Sharing Centre). But we had nothing? I tried some speed tests at Ookla, but couldn't get that to load or work when it did - when I had it I just got 'Latency Test Error' or 'Page Error' messages. I tried loading other webpages - but it was so degraded - e.g. it took 10 minutes 40 seconds for a support.apple.com page to load?

I jumped on a chat with Technical, using a laptop tethered to my mobile data plan - they tried loads of line tests (which seemed fine?), they wanted me to use the TT speed tests - but we couldn't actually get them to load or work ('There is no Internet connection', 'This site can't be reached' or if it loaded, didn't respond), we cleared the browser cache (and tried others), excluded security such as Norton, VPN software, and separate modems, and undertook a DNS Flush.  No effect.

Lastly I was asked to switch off the router for 30 minutes and was advised that TT would reset the line - and that this would get things going again.

When I powered back up there was no change. I ran a couple of ping and traceroutes - these are the results (as you can see - not great).

DSL Status doesn't seem much different?

Has anyone had any similar experiences - and did you find out what the actual problem was?

I notice that there are still some timeouts on hop 2 and 7 - are these markers that there is still an issue?

I'm going to be monitoring and will update this post (and technical probably) if it goes for a dive again.

Thanks in advance

I am unable to send or recieve whatsapp messages using wifi. Whatsapp works fine when using my mobile data. I have kids safe activated and have checked that social media sites are not blocked (I have no problem accessing facebook and twitter). I have tried adding www.whatsapp.com to the list of sites always allowed but to no avail.

If anyone can suggest a solution I would be grateful.

DSL-3782 VPN Issue -

New router won't let VPN connect

I have just upgraded to Fibre Broadband but my office VPN won't work with my new router (DSL-3782). It connects and says it is connected but I can't access any of the services. The VPN system is Palo Alto GlobalProtect and it works fine with the old Talktalk router. What should I do? Is there a fix?

Slow Fibre Broadband Speed

Since going live with the Talk Talk fibre broad band service approximately 2 weeks ago I have to report that my broadband speeds are appallingly slow and have not increased in speed at all as the system has supposedly settled in.

Typical download speeds are no higher than 4.5Mbps and I was geting a consistent 5.5Mbps download speed with my previous ISP (PlusNet) on standard broadband as opposed to Talk Talk fibre.

For reference i have a  BT Openreach Telephone Master Socket NTE5c VDSL/ADSL Faceplate MK4 (built in filter etc.) installed in my home which was previously giving me the higher speeds with my former ISP.

The router is plugged directly in to this master socket along with one telephone - no other internal wiring in my premises.

Can someone please action a response on this matter as I feel there is something clearly wrong with the external Open Reach / Talk Talk infrastructure.

Thanks in anticipation.

DSL - 3782 VPN doesnt work

Hi All,

I have just joined TT and up to now have been very happy, however I am having an issue with this "nice DSL-3782"  the firmware does not allow VPN pass through.  All I would like to do is put it in bridge mode so that it will act like a modem, I cannot find any config settings in the firmware.  I am tempted to flash the stock D-Link firmware which is slightly older but may work.  What are your thoughts?  failing that I am going to heave to get a new modem.

I Have a Draytek 2820, that can make the connection for me if the D-Link is in modem mode.  I have tried numerous things mention on the forum.  seems the best answer I found is to get a (HG633) that apperently allows this.

How would I go about getting one from TT?

I might add that I have a Draytek Vigor 2820 that could make the connection for me.

Faulty master socket

Hi there. My master telephone socket is faulty. There is a lot of movement in the filter plug when it is plugged in, so it doesn't make a good connection. As a result, my internet intermittently keeps on dropping and the phone line stops working as well. To fix this I have to spend ages wiggling the plug around in the socket so that it makes a commection and then try not to touch it again after that, which sometimes makes it behave ok for a while. I don't have any phone extensions in my house. Can you please let me know if you can send me a replacement master socket. I can replace this myself as it's only 2 screws that need undoing to remove it. Thanks.

Hi since Jan my fibre speed has droped from 31 Mbp/s to 12 Mbp/s, I have tried a second router with the same results, I'm connected to the master socket with buit in filter, I have also tried straight into the test socket with various micro filters, attached is the report card from SAM Knows.

Could the line please be tested.

How soon does DLM increase speed?

My FTTC line developed a cable fault on the line going to my boat.  It got water in a connector and DLM has reduced speed to this (from ~70MBit/sec) for the past week, and DLM has not improved speed dispite no line disconnections and a clear tone.  Why  has it not improved and I don't want to have to wait around for an engineeer to call to to say yeah it's ok now.

HG633 V2.0 upgrade - big performance hit !

$

Looks like my HG633 was upgraded to V2.0 firmware last night.

My downstream (to the router) and throughput have both dropped by around 25%.

The downstream SNR has dropped from around 9 (so was being restricted to the 40 Mbps download) and it is now showing between 4 and 5 - struggling, and failing to reach 40 Mbps downstream. Upstream seems uneffected.

I also notice that the line has changed from VDSL2 with vectoring to VDSL2 without vectoring. Why would V2.0 cause this ?

Less than impressed. Is anything likely to improve over time ?

EDIT -

Switched off for 30+ minutes. Rebooting was taking forever so I swapped back to my old HG635.

Downstream inproved +8 Mbps. Throughput was also around +8 Mbps back to the 40 Mbps mark and consequentally my downstream SNR went +3 Db back to nearly 8 Db.

Interleaving is now off again and Vectoring is back on.

I'm still using V1.06t firmware on the HG635.

EDIT 2– 15:10

Potentially worse news.

I swapped back to the HG633 with V2.0 firmware. All lights went green fairly quickly but the Internet light never illuminated (not even red). Left it “running” then after about 15 minutes the broadband light (which had been green) went out.

Looking horribly like that update may have bricked the HG633.

Back to the HG635 again, but I seem to have lost vectoring this time so am running a bit slower, but at least I am running.

HG633 and Hive Leak Sensor

Hi

Are there any known issues with the HG633 and the Hive Leak Sensor?

I have been trying to connect without success for over 6 months. Hive even sent me a new Leak Sensor so I have two to try. The HG633 has been on various firmware levels and is currently on 2.0.

During the Leak Sensor setup it simply says Cannot connect, try again when trying to connect to the HG633. It will connect to my neighbours HH5!

Thanks.

I understand from this community that this router does not work with VPN and the resolution is a different router. Please can you send one to me?

HG633 Failed to obtain IP address problem

$

Hi, we've been having a problem with our HG633 router since it received an update to v1.22t to fix a previous issue preventing us from watching Netflix on a PS4. Every few days, seemingly at random the router will stop allowing devices to connect to it. The router will still be visible to searching devices, but when trying to connect to the router it will show an error saying failed to obtain IP address. The router settings are also not accessible when this happens. The only fix is to turn the router off and back on again.

Can you please advise on how to fix this as it has been happening for several months now, would a newer firmware fix this issue? Thanks.
