So the short version is what is the preset VDSL Half Return Trip (HRT) Value of the TT issued routers?
The long version...
I use a 3rd party modem/router (Asus DSL-AC68U) because the available router side settings suit me better than those available with the TT units. Unfortunately whilst it has excellent router capabilities it's a pretty rubbish modem. I know I'm losing 2-3 mbps minimum using the Asus instead of the Sagem 5364.
So I don't have a specific speed issue but I know I can get a faster connection and with some down time over Christmas I thought I'd see what could be done to improve it. First thoughts were to change some IP settings, stick the Asus into the DMZ and connect everything to the Asus. However, I can also set the Asus up as a router only which would pretty much do the same thing. Both involve resetting and re-doing the entire network setup but then came across a post on the Asus forums (from a tech guy) that gives advice on changing the HRT value on the Asus to improve speed.
The command I am using is:
w vdsl set hrt 5 0 6 0
I must stress that people should not try to change root settings unless they know exactly what the command does as doing so can turn your hardware into a doorstop. I know what the command does but I don't know what the specific values refer too!
Anyway my speeds have increased by about 1 mbps after this change...so good so far.
The issue/query is what is the ideal value as far as TT are concerned because it is apparently ISP dependant. I have another option (4 2 4 2) which also gave me a speed boost but not so much as 5 0 6 0 so I'm guessing there is an "ideal".
