Wifi issues - 2.4Ghz not working

$

Hi

Was recently noticing drop outs on streaming so decided to check the wifi settings.  As part of this I decided to change the name of the 5Ghz band on the router so I could see and connect to that separately.  Having done this I have now come to the conclusion that the 2.4Ghz band is not working for internet.  I can connect to it, but no internet through it.  Connecting to the 5Ghz band gives great internet.  I have done some trouble shooting - done a factory reset on the router.  Still the 2.4Ghz doesn't work.  Have changed channels for the 2.4Ghz band and also looked at changing the 20Mhz frequency setting.  Again neither of these changes have sorted anything.  Have been on line with chat support and unfortunately got nowhere - I had suggested they could send a router to test the setup - but they weren't able to do this, instead just organise a chargeable engineer visit - which seems a bit over the top - and also means I have to take time off work to be available for this.  Or they were then looking at what upgrades I could possibly pay for!!!  Not overly impressed - as only 1 yr in to a 2 yr contract.

So, just wondering if anybody has any other suggestions as to what I could do on the trouble shooting front or any other suggestions?

Many thanks for any input.

Upgrade to Faster Fibre from ADSL2+

I work from my mum's house once a week and we were offered the upgrade from ADSL2+ to VDSL at a good price. So I pushed the button just before Christmas.

Some questions as didn't get much back from TalkTalk on the process. I work in IT so I'm pretty familiar with the nuts and bolts.

  1. Currently using a HG633 router - this appears to support VDSL as well so will we continue to use the same router or will a new router been sent out?
  2. Firmware is v2.00t - does the HG633 update themselves or is it a manual process? If so, are the later versions stable?
  3. For reasons I can't quite fathom, this router has never connected to the internet out of the box - I had to request the PPP username and password and enter these manually. Will the same username and passwords continue to work on VDSL?
  4. Account page shows a proposed go live of 6th Jan - is it possible that engineers might be doing "something" on the line now as the DSL link is very unstable today? The link has dropped four times in the last 30 minutes. Currently it's been up for 8 minutes... the router itself has been up 91 days - might try a reboot

Thanks, Rob.

Faster Fibre Broadband - VDSL Sync speed gradually decreasing

Hi, I've had the Faster Fibre Broadband in since the beginning of October 2019. Initially I was very happy with the performance, but over time the maximum VDSL sync speed has been dropping from around 59 Mbps when the service started to 31 Mbps now. This is below the minimum guaranteed value you originally gave me :

  Minimum Guaranteed speed 32.2 Mb
Typical download speed 40.5 Mb to 63.7 Mb
Typical upload speed 11.3 Mb to 18.4 Mb

Here's the current figures from my Huawei HG635 Super Router :

Upstream line rate (kbit/s): 19236
Downstream line rate (kbit/s): 32400
Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 6.2
Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 14.8
Upstream interleave depth: 0
Downstream interleave depth: 0
Line standard: VDSL
Upstream line attenuation (dB): 27.1
Downstream line attenuation (dB): 13.5
Upstream output power (dBm): 7.5
Downstream output power (dBm): 12.2
Downstream interleave depth: None

Please could you look into this.

Signed up to fibre. Didn’t receive any info about prime (was included as part of the deal). Contacted customer service and received the code, which didn’t work. Amazon states it’s been used already and to contact TalkTalk.
TalkTalk webpage says if it doesn’t work, contact Amazon. Someone help......please!

Wi-Fi Hub: 2.4 GHz band keeps changing from channel 6 to channel 11 on manual setting

Hi,
I have a wireless cctv/doorbell that doesn't recognise channel 11 of my Wi-Fi hub, consequently after installation of the doorbell approximately 10 months ago I altered the channel selection of the Wi-Fi Hubs 2.4ghz band from AUTO (which occasional selected channel 11 causing the doorbell to crash) to a fixed channel 6 and it has worked perfectly for the last 10 months.

Unfortunately over the past couple of weeks despite being manually configured to channel 6 the hub keeps resetting every few hours to channel 11 causing the doorbell and CCTV camera to crash.

Despite changing it back to channel 6 a number of times each day it continues to reset to channel 11

Has anyone a fix for this? I just want the 2.4 GHz band to stay locked on channel 6

I have tried switching the router on and off and have also done the factory reset but it makes no difference.

Thanks for any help

Alan

Intermittent Broadband

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can please help me - since I'm getting absolutely nowhere with an Intermittent Broadband connection issue.

I have a Faster Fibre Package. For a lot of the time, the connection is stable and the speeds are reasonable. My problem is the frequent loss of internet connectivity. This affects both WIFI and LAN connections. The bulk of my devices are connected via LAN connections - so it's not a WIFI issue.

I frequently loose Internet access but the white light on my router remains on. My router is a  Talk Talk WIFI Hub - Sagemcom-FAST5364 and the software is up to date. In most cases, the internet connectivity resolves itself without the need to restart the router. But this frequent loss of internet connectivity is causing me issues. (I work from home and require a stable Internet connection). It also causes endless frustration when streaming videos.

I've checked the Service Status on my Talk Talk account and under stability, it states that 'Our health check shows that your internet has been disconnecting'. I've then run a live connection test and the results state: 'We have detected some intermittency in your connection that could cause you to drop offline when using the internet.'

I've either called the technical team or chatted to them on line. And every time we go through the same process of performing a factory reset of the router, restarting the router etc. Since there was no improvement, I was sent a replacement router to see if that resolves the issue. It made no difference. I've also tried my old Netgear D6400 router and it also makes no difference. So I think it's definitely not a router problem.

I can also confirm that it's not related to using the phone since I hardly use my landline.

My master socket is an Open Reach MK4 and the router is connected to the master socket.

Can anyone please assist / advise

Thanks,

Ari

which third party modems do you use community ?

Im going to get a BT open reach modem (i was offered one, they may be along after i post this). Do i need a specific model ?

Are there any other models of modems that work and can be unlocked, do some work better than others, for example, i read that the netgear DM 200 is a more current modem and would get slightly faster speeds.

Im not adverse to reprogramming them and i am a seasoned SMD and BGA IC reworker if any need this kind of work.

Guys / Gals

For some reason i was sent a new router. Not ordered or requested by me

It looks like the SageMcom that i use but  is a DG8041W with firmware V1.05t

Have the consignment number if you require. It was sent via DHL

Now this unit looks most interesting.Just had to open and look at Menu system

If for some reason you want me to replace my present SageMcom with it then fine with me

But before i do a little information on the DG would be helpfull, in regards to specs etc

I was sent no information about the router apart from  "an Item", was due for delivery

Any info would be nice.

Hi Guys,

Every few days, I seem to lose almost 95% of the normal upload speed I get, usually in the evenings.

Here's the latest example

 Actual Rate [Kbps]Maximum Rate [Kbps]Noise Margin [dB]Attenuation [dB]Power [dBm]

DownstreamUpstream
28643539
27105539
8.7012.80

It usually recovers by the next day.

Is someone able to check if there are issues in my area?

Many thanks,

Joey

Fibre Broadband Intermittent Speed issue

We've had fibre FTTC broadband at the property for several years.

Three months ago we changed routers to the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub and it has been both stable and, for here, quick with speeds of 10-12 Mbps.

Since the new year we have noticed that we will get intermittent issues, sometimes lasting a few seconds, sometimes several minutes, where we cannot seem to load any web pages or where performance is exceptionally poor. On occasions where we have been able to access a speed checker, the speed is lower than 1 Mbps, sometimes lower than 0.01 Mbps.

The performance issues seem to becoming more frequent, watching TV on demand this evening, they occurred every few minutes - we have now given up watching. When the problems occur, all devices connected have poor performance.

The xDsi information is as follows:

very slow ethernet speeds

I am currently experiencing very slow ethernet speeds. I have done speed checks and get anywhere between 1mb up to 6mb but my Wifi is fine that averages between 50mb and 60mb.

I first noticed the speeds upstairs that run through powerline and tested both with low speeds.

I then tried an ethernet cable connected directly into the modem but was getting the same very slow speed.

I have tested multiple ports on the modem and get the same results

I do not understand why I would get such slow speeds with ethernet but high speeds on the wifi.

any help to fix this would be much appreciated

Fibre Broadband speed and router not being recognised.

I have Just completed the stabilising period of two weeks after my upgrade to fibre. My speed on both wireless and cable connection is 21 Mbps this is at the lower end of my estimated speeds that Talktalk quoted which was 17Mbps and 29.3 Mbps. During the stabilising period it ran for quite a few days at the Maximum 29.3 Mbps. When I run a live connection test it states that my broadband connection speed could be improved, another anomaly is that the system cannot recognise the router I am using, this is a D link Model DSL 3782 supplied by Talktalk.

I have tried re-setting the router however the speeds are the same on both the wireless and cable connections. I would welcome any advice on how to increase the speed.

Sync speed below guarantee minimum

Hi,

Since December my sync speed is below 21mb. I have contacted talk talk twice on the chat but all they do acknowledge there is a problem, run some tests and to monitor for 48 hours.

I have completed the basic troubleshooting and it has not resolved the issue.

Before December I was getting on average 68mb.

Fibre speed boost

Hi

I subscribed for the faster fibre speed boost [67mb/s] a couple of days ago but there is no significant increase in download speed from the old, to date.  I switched the modem off for 30 mins this morning but there is no change.

My previous contract was on the 40mb/s service and I got 38 mb/s from that - which suggests the line is good.  [Openreach recently installed a new master socket etc. and were happy with the line].

Could you check please that the speed boost has been implemented?  The modem figures are:

Actual 42071, max 40360, Noise margin 6.00db, Attenuation 16.90, power 12.40 dbm.

I appreciate that I won`t get 67 mb/s but would have expected that there would be a reasonable speed increase from the previous results/contract.  Does the line need more time to adjust to the new speed?

The phone line is good with no noise.

Hoping you can help.

Regards

Jon

Engineer Charges

Hi. Please could someone clarify engineer charges for me? My landline has an intermittent fault - sometimes the line crackles and other times it is completely dead. Fibre Broadband mostly works fine but sometimes disconnects several times per evening. I'm pretty sure that the problem is either in the master socket or in a little grey junction box on the outside wall of the house (with a BT logo on it). If that's correct, how much would I be charged for fixing them?

Many thanks

Simon

Bad signal other than room containing router

I have my router situated in my lounge, I have an open plan house and paid for a fast fibre lead to be installed when I moved in, but in my bedroom which protrudes forwards from the front but only a short distance from the router the signal is almost gone! I really don't feel I should have to be using a booster for such a short distance, any ideas?

it does have to go through two walls but that really shouldn't deplete the signal down to barely one bar showing in equipment there?

Drop in speed [Downstream has halved]

Dear TalkTalk Community,

I have just noticed that today, my internet speed has halved.

I am on the Faster Fibre package with a Fibre Speed Boost.

I usually get around 70-80mbps download, but today I noticed, after my internet shut off for a bit, that when it came back online, I was only getting around 35mbps download.

I went onto my WiFi Hub settings to check what the downstream and upstream are and saw the following:

Actual Rate [Kbps]

Maximum Rate [Kbps]

Noise Margin [dB]

Attenuation [dB]

Power [dBm]

DownstreamUpstream
3593111434
3421011434
3.307.30
37.000.00
13.106.70

Like I mentioned, usually, my downstream is around the 70000/80000 actual rate.

This is super random.

I was wondering if any OCE's could help me with this?

Kind regards,

Ryan
