new wifi hub dropping wifi

gutted, posted before and it has vanished, as you may guess I am rubbish on computers. Mums new wifi hub is causing havoc, dropping wifi as it pleases.I have installed a wifi analysis app on a fire hd tablet to help give a clue. Strange it not only is duel band but duel channels (6 &13) 2.4MHz and (36 & 44) 5MHz wonder if this is causing confusion to mums older apple devices will only reconnect when stood infront of hub, however the exact same devices were happy on the previous HG633 ? router.

please talk me through how to supply any of mums details you may require, grateful for any help to cure the wifi dropouts

Regards T

Hi Community,

Is anyone aware if the BT Smart Hub 2 will work with TT Fibre?

BT routers etc generally tend to be well made and perform very well?

HIve not connecting to internet

I have just purchased a Hive hub heating system. However I can't get the Hub to connect to the internet (thermostat and receiver are working fine in "stand alone mode") through a wired connection to the HG633 router. I've done all the troubleshooting you can imagine and have spoken to Hive themselves. They asked me to run a packet loss test and the results (packet loss 17%) suggested that I should speak to my ISP to get this reduced. However I have run the test several times since and the packet loss is variable (and often 0%) and it still won't connect. I removed the device from my router list and now its not even listed. I spent 45 mins chatting to Talktalk online and whoever I spoke to simply told me my line SPEED was fine but even when I explained I needed the reduce my packet loss etc they didn't know what I was talking about. When I asked to speak to someone else they simply cut me off!

Would be grateful for any thoughts?

New line installed yesterday - High Ping

I have had TalkTalk fibre for around 7 months. I have moved home and had a new line installed at the new address yesterday.

When the installer came he said that the connection in the house would be great as it was new copper and we were right next to the cabinet. He said we were on an 80/20 service and he was getting readings saying that we should get 77 Mb/s down.

After the install I asked if I could check the connection before he left and he waited by the door. I got 54 Mb/s using a CAT6 ethernet cable with WiFi off. The ping was 33 ms. He said, "That's cr*p", and had a puzzled look. He had the expression that said he should be doing something to rectify it but he was already on his way out.

He said if I try it on the master socket then it should be fine. He did not wait for me to try it on the master. I have since tried it and the download bandwidth has gone up to 65 Mb/s max, but nowhere near the 77 Mb/s he expected.

What I am most worried about is the ping. It is between 22 and 33 ms on the master socket, using ethernet. Previously I was getting 7 - 11 ms at my old address. 22 ms ping is something I expect from virgin media's DOCSIS 3.0, not VDSL2.

I play a lot of games and this ping is just not good enough. It has caused me to go from having a great in game ping to having a moderate one. People in game are now saying that I appear to be lagging around (Teleporting).

The engineer came very late in the time slot and did not set-up and test the modem on the master socket. I do not think he has done a good job to ensure everything was installed correctly. He seemed like he was in a rush to get out.

Unable to VPN & Surf at the same time

Hi,

Have just signed up for another 18 mths and purchased the new Wi-Fi Hub also.

Yet I am still unable to access my VPN and go onto the internet at the same time.

Its one or the other and as I work from home this is causing me severe productivity issues.

FYI - I have never been able to do both, regardless of router/firmware etc.

I did think the purchase of this new router would put an end to this issue.

Please can someone help.

Many thanks

PS4 connection issues

Hi, I’m struggling to maintain WiFi connection on my PS4. It will connect but keeps constantly disconnecting mid game which is extremely frustrating.

I’ve read a few similar threads on here in which TalkTalk customers seem to be experiencing the exact same issues so it must be a common problem.

We’ve had issues in the past where the WiFi was completely down for over two weeks. After days of gruelling Telephone conversations with the TalkTalk support team they finally agreed to send out a new router, this was around two months back. The new router solved the no connection problem but the PS4 issue still persists.

Is there any way anyone can help?

I'm currently running TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub version SG4K10002808t and it seems a coincident but since I upgraded my contract my router drops for a second or so its WiFi network 3-4 times aday.  I think more sods law !!

nothing has changed from new equipment point of view and I've tried changing the channel, tried some devices on 5Ghz but still get this momentary drop in connection.

I wondered if it was down to a new software update as I think I have a very late software version?

any help would be great

Lower than minimum guaranteed download speed with replacement router

We have Fibre Broadband with Speed Boost contract.

Now that we have replaced the HD633 router with the the DSL3782 you sent us we have a stable connection speed.

Unfortunately this has stabilised at about 16mbps. This is about half the speed that we used to get when the HG663 was working optimally.

I have run a direct cable from the router to the test master socket, but there has been not change to the speed.

The online service centre test says

The health check we carried out on your broadband line shows that recently you have not been receiving the estimated download speed we guaranteed when you signed up to TalkTalk.

Estimated speed: 54 Mb - 74 Mb

Recent speed: 18 Mb

The TalkTalk online broadband availablity checks states
We guarantee you a minimum download speed of 35.9Mb

Our original contract states (31/10/2017)
Minimum Guaranteed speed 46Mb

Despite now having a stable download speed, we still can't take advantage of our 4K Netflix subscription. ☹️

WIFI Hub Forgets Devices set up as Deny under Mac filtering

So we have just joined talktalk on fast150. We have an openreach modem and a sagemcom fast 5364 hub. I am trying to turn off wifi for my children's devices. As there is no scheduling available I am having to manually set mac filtering.

Unfortunately the router seems to forget which devices are set to deny. Over the space of the day, one or both devices have disappeared from the deny table. The mac addresses have not changed as they can be put in and the deny works later in the day.

To make the change over less onerous I have been trying to keep a deny table just on 2.4Ghz and then switching 5Ghz on and off completely when I need to turn the wifi off to these devices.

When I check it frequently seems the children have wifi when they shouldn't and don't have it when they should!

Why is this happening?

Firbre upgrade

When I go on my dashboard and click on my offers and upgrades I cannot obtain the web page I think I have been blocked because I want to upgrade to fibre due to a very slow broadband speed which the tech department said was due to the length of my connection from the exchange and the tech department offered me an upgrade at a higher monthly fee than I could get by doing my own upgrade (£21.95) and when I just go on the normal TALKTALK web site to obtain an upgrade I am blocked from that as well.

Can any one help me sort this out.

Many thanks.

Fibre Offer

I received an email offering me Fibre for £1.95 more than my current broadband price, fixed for 24 months.  I'm sure I registered for no marketing though some years ago since I checked.

Could an OCE please check whether this is genuine please?  info@consumer.talktalkplc.com was the sender.  If genuine, what would happen to my current anytime phone boost?

I don't seem to be able to copy and paste part of the email.  I have tried to attach a doc, but not sure whether it worked (below).   It says UPGRADE WITH ONE CLICK which arises my suspicion.

Thanks

TalkTalk halving connection speed

$

As my contract is coming to an end and I've been happy with TalkTalk fibre broadband I thought I would look into recontracting. I currently receive a connection speed of between 58Mbps and 61Mbps on my line. TalkTalk now tell me that if I recontract they are only able to offer me a maximum 37Mbps (guaranteed 20.6Mbps) as my line will not support higher speeds - which it clearly does and is. So if I stay with TalkTalk I would pay about the same each month for half the download speed. Is there any way to address this with TalkTalk or am I forced to move to another provider who offers me the higher speed?2020-01-09_10-18.png

Specific FTP server times out, but refreshing IP address on hub solves issues. Why?

Hey all.

When working from home, I have to access an FTP server over my Talk Talk fibre connection. Periodically, this connection times out.

During the periods of time out, I can access the FTP server via a 3G connection on my phone.

I've been able to solve this issue by changing the public IP address of the Talk Talk hub (by flicking the IP settings to "static" and then immediately back to auto) thereby regaining access to the FTP server. But it's becoming a tiresome process to go through.

The hosting company who run the FTP account swear they are not blocking any IP addresses.

Any clues or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Monthly broadband usage

We are moving outside of UK to a place in US where there are no "unlimited" bundles for broadband, hence I would like to know how much usage on an average my family has. Please help!

Every day between 6pm and 8pm I get disconnects.

Every day now for about the past week. My fibre broadband disconnects between 6pm and 8pm.

I am getting a little annoyed at this.

O have tried all the usual suggestions. It seems to be at peak times. ie when most folk get home from work. The status page sees my disconnections. The connection is usually stable 6am to 6pm.

My neighbourhood has a total of 52 houses and one green fibre enabled box so I do not think it's overloaded with traffic, especially as most residents are well over retirement age. Any clues?

And another router is just a time wasting exercise imho. As an electrical design engineer and all round geek it's not a dodgy modem or master socket.
