slow or loss of wifi speeds

Hi since i have upgraded to fibre from standard broadband i have had intermittent or loss of wifi when using 2 or more devices( iphone xr , samsung s10 ,samsung a70 and pc)

I have done a factory reset on the router but no difference.

Borrowed a hg633 router which is the same as what i have and still the same.

Borrowed a sagemcom fast5364 off a friend for a couple of days and there was a noticable difference.

It doesnt seem to matter where we are in the house it has the same problem.

for testing we sat next to the router when we tested it.

Speed is spot on for what we should get it is just the slow or no wifi( signal on devices says full signal).

Any help would be much appreceated .

Also this is my first time on the forum and i dont appear to be getting the verification email for my forum account.

Thank you

hi have upgraded to fibre broadband a few months ago and if i have 2 or more devices in use at the same time the wifi seems to freeze.

Have run a speed test and am getting 39mbs.

Also noticed that if i am watching netflix/amazone/youtube etc which is connected via lan cable it buffers alot when the wifi drops out.

Have factory reset router(hg633) and changed the wifi channel but still the same.

Borrowed a hg633 router offf a friend andt hat was the same.

This is the reason i changed from normal broadband to fibre as ive been having this issue for months.

All my devices are up to date. windows 10 pc,iphone xr,samsung s9 and samsung a70.

At times its so bad with the wifi i switch to mobile data just to finish off what im doing online.

so upgraded from normal fibre 3rd jan  speed stayed at 22mb complained on webchat 7 times now & get nowhere  just waste hr or more eachtime  say you have 30days to solve my problem or can leave  every cloud lol😀😁

1st advisor sent me your new router & i quote this will solve all the problems

hmmm only added more because the port forwarding option refuses to open ports

it cant be used as a modem only  as no bridge mode

yet im surposed to leave this connected all the time so you can speed up my line

well if i cant use internet for what i do then i don't need it do i 😁

so im hoping you can actually deliver speed you quote me on or allow me to leave & if you want router back that's fine by me  just more junk in my cupboard

ps using openreach modem & linksys router with ddwrt does what i need & want

this aint my first rodeo

Websites blocked or not showing up when searched for?

I have recently joined Talk Talk and am finding I can not access a whole load of websites that i used to be able to on my previous ISP. I have turned off KidSafe but that seems to have made little difference. I know the websites are there as can access them off my phone using 4g. Obviously paying a monthly internet balance and not being able to do half the things i want is frustrating. Please advise/help?

The thing is.. we already have a landline and an internet provider... The router is in someone room... The signal is pretty bad for me.

I would like to make a contract with Talk Talk and have my own router in my room.. so i could connect my laptop via etheret cable...

My question is... can i have two internet providers on the same landline? I'm so confused about how the landline works in UK ... Please help me

Channel changing to busier channels despite setting a channel manually

Hello, I'm finding daily that my 2.4ghz channel and sometimes my 5ghz channel are changing from the channel I've set it to. Whenever I use my phone to see the current channel and the traffic, it's always changed it from the channel it was set to (which is the quietest in my area) to one that is busier. The 5ghz will change channels, sometimes to another empty channel, however it has also set it to the same channel as my neighbours at times when there are plenty of empty alternatives. Could you please turn off the setting that causes it to change automatically please? Many thanks!

Typical download speed

Hi all.

My go live date was 31/01/20 and im really happy with everything apart from my speed. My minimum guaranteed is 44.7mb and Typical speed should be 50.8mb - 73.1mb. I am getting an average of 49mb which in my opinion is on the low side. I have had line tests but as far as im aware everything seems ok. Talktalk keeps asking about my set up and everything is just the same as when i was with sky and i was hitting 67mb - 69mb so as you can imagine im a little frustrated. Dont get me wrong i am so glad i joined talktalk because the wifi is the best ive ever had so im really happy, i just wish my speeds was a bit faster as they should be. Any advice would be great. Thanks all.

Hello all

I am trying to setup the new router Fast 5364 router mode using the WAN port

Before you ask i appreciate the router is plug and play but i am experimenting how to use a HG633 as modem mode and 5364 as router 🙂

What do i have to change in the setting page for the 5364 so it takes internet from the red WAN port please instead of a phone line connection.

Would appreciate any assistance 🙂

Hi There, the title says it all. I'd like the latest router firmware pushed to my Wi-Fi hub, which I have just set up. (currently running 1400t).

Our TalkTalk number has been associated with our account, so you should have all the information you need.

Thanks in advance.

Faulty Line

Despite contacting TalkTalk repeatedly the line fault on my fibre broadband still exists. It began on the 13th January and the situation is exactly the same now.

I am getting 9 mbps line speed at present and have done since this fault began and there does not seem to any apparent solution to the problem.

Has anybody got any bright ideas please?

PSTN delivery over FTTC

This might be a simple question with an obvious answer, but I would like a technically accurate answer!

If I have fast internet connected using fibre to the cabinet, how is voice (i.e. equivalent to a PSTN connection) delivered? Is it simply similar to ADSL, with a micro-filter? I have a couple of extensions off the NTE5 and I need to plan for any changes, should  I go ahead with a faster connection than ADSL2+.

Looking forwards to any replies. TIA

Confused with Speed Test

Hope somebody here can explain my Speed Test Results as I'm so confused.

I went 'live' today with Faster Fibre & Fibre Speed Boost.

I logged into my Router and on the Dashboard it says:

Download 46.3 Mbps - Upload 13.5 Mbps

My Computer is connected to the new Router with the supplied Ethernet Cable but after running several Speed Tests (tried a few sites including the TalkTalk one) throughout the day my results are very disappointing as I'm only getting:

Download 20.4 Mbps - Upload 12.6 Mbps

Everything from the Exchange to my house and my internal cables must be okay if the Router is showing Download: 46.3 Mbps - Upload: 13.5 Mbps... so why am I getting roughly half of that on my PC?

Just in case it was my Computer Hardware, I also connected my new Laptop via Ethernet and I get the same results.

Bottom line is my Router is receiving just above the guaranteed Download speed of 40.5 Mbps and it's slightly below the guaranteed Upload speed of 15.5 Mbps but the Speeds are NOT being transmitted to my Computer(s).

What could be the problem? Are there any Router settings I can change or could the router itself be faulty?

Kindest regards,

Mike

Hi,

Last thursday 30th jan my internet went down, i contacted talktalk who said i would be updated within 72 hours. I have not received any updates and have only been told when i live chat that repairs are being made.

Last night i logged on to service centre to track my fault and it shows there are 4 devices using my connection - none of which i own.

i would like to know how these devices are using my connection and how long this fault is going to take to be fixed?

Thankyou

Hi Michelle

I'm also not getting the speeds specified I renewed 02/01/20 I was on 38 Mb/s Fibre and took up the free offer of the faster fibre of 67 Mb/s but over the last 2 days the speed has only increased by 10 Mb/s to 47/48 Mb/s the upload speed has increased by 100% to 18 Mb/s not very happy to say the least.

I have also tried unplugging the router and leaving for a full 30 mins. but  there was no difference at all.

By the way I am using my own router which is a Asus RT-AC3200 which it says is capable of giving me the specified speeds

Please can you help thanks

New Huawei DG8041W not allowing connection across Home network.

I have just been sent new Huawei router but after installation when everything else seems to work, I cannot make a Remote Desktop connection across its internal LAN ports (or WiFi). The same connection works with the previous router so it appears to be something to do with the way the new router is handling tcp traffic across its LAN. Netbios connections like connections to file server appear to work across it. If anyone has any idea why this is happening I would love to hear.

Switched to Faster Fibre.

Hi,

I was switched to Faster Fibre under an Openreach upgrade, the go live date was 3rd February, but this morning found out it was live from 1st February.

The Internet connection seemed sluggish on Sunday 2nd and today after the upgrade had fully processed, it still is.

My homepage used to load quickly, but now takes at least 20 to 30 seconds to show.

Earlier today the speeds were 19.9 mbs download and 7.1 mbs upload, roughly half the average advertised at 38 mbs.

I had a web chat with the Tech Team and a call back is due between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm today to try further options.

In the meantime I looked here and tried the disconnection of the Router for half an hour, after which the speed was only 8.9 mbs and 1.7 mbs, later it was 22.4 mbs and 7.00 mbs, currently it's down slightly to 21.4 mbs and 7.00 mbs. Will the speed increase over time?

Fibre is all well and good, but from the telephone pole to the master socket in the hallway is about 100 foot line or so of copper cable, this is approximately 44 years old. So am I likely to get anywhere near the advertised average speed of 38 mbs?

Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Thanks.

Dave

Reduced speed on my line

Had problems in December with dropped connections old talk talk router was at fault. Sent a new router connection is fine.

Was getting 38mb download speeds and max downstream rate was shown as 55000 kbts on router. Also had the option to upgrade to super fast fibre.

Now line speed has not gone back up currently max downstream shown on router is 37000  kbts. Actual connection is below 35mb. Also no option now to upgrade package to super fast fibre.

Problem is has my line been reset, or has it now been capped in terms of max speed.

I want to upgrade to super fast fibre or at least get back into my old speed 38mb download.

Wi-fi speed

Although have the latest super- duper router on fibre ,my wi-fi upstairs is still poor (7/8 mbps) , have had Openreach out before and not really helped, and fed up with jumping  thru all the usual hoops.

Could do with a Passthru Powerline Adaptor to sort it from what i have read on forums ,do Talktalk provide them gratis ,as do not want to shell out ££'s to get a decent wi-fi speed that am already paying for, plus its wasted ££'s if its no help   .....has anyone ever been provided with one ?

Problem viewing Twitch (Error 2000)

Hi everyone,

I recently switched to TalkTalk fibre from a different provider. No problems for a few days. Then I became unable to access websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Twitch using any device via wifi. I set up a SuperSafe account and turned content filtering off and on again for each device.

This appears to have solved the problem of accessing those websites EXCEPT that when I go onto Twitch everything works except the actual stream. So I can view the homepage, I can click onto a stream, the chat is functioning but the actual video / audio of the stream does not load and displays Network Error 2000.

This error displays in the same way on all devices. Twitch works perfectly using mobile data. It is clearly therefore a problem with the router / settings but I can't figure out what. I have turned off virus scanning, this did not work. I have activated content filtering and specifically allowed twitch.tv, this did not work.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance, Ben.
