New Superfast by VSDL problems - for Debbie OCE

Hi Debbie, thank you for inviting me to re-post the saga independently.

We had a constant red internet light and no service when we started VSDL for the first time using TT Huawei 633 router (fibre from exchange to a cabinet in the locality and then copper to the home address). The TT Huawei 633 replaced a TP-Link TD-W8970 which had been subsituted for the TT Huawei 533 to give sufficient Wi-Fi range for our bungalow. The red light persisted until several hours after we plugged the 633 into the Master telephone box instead of to an extension box, which wiring had been working fine for years with the TP-Link router and ASDL (non-fibre). With ASDL broadband download speed rarely exceeded 3mbps, usually enough for i-Player but not always, so we were virtually obliged to go for the new faster service. Things happened as follows.

When our 'Superfast' went live with H 633 router we tried using new filters but the old ethernet and telephone wiring connections but the red internet light was on most of the time and we could not use the internet for a week or so, although download speed was up to around 20mbps when it was occasionally working. Pop-ups and TalkTalk Technical said there was 'intermittent synch' and a visit by an engineer was going to take 3 weeks!

While waiting again (although previously a TT engineer who installed a YouView box would not consider moving the master socket but said that using the telephone extension box was ok), I drilled a hole in the wall in order to try connecting the existing 6m telephone-to-router wire to the master telephone box. (Wifi strength with Huawei 633 is at least as good as it had been with TP-Link TD-W8970 from the same room).

I have completed my profile and have two enquiries about what then happened:-

1.) After moving the telephone to router wire to the master plug as above, it may have been a coincidence and at first the red internet light stayed on but after 6 or 8 hours it went green and has remained green ever since, and the new system is working at last. I have since cancelled the engineer but, Debbie, had you done anything else to put things right, or had anything been done automatically at the exchange please?

2.) Over a few more days, with 633 connected to the master socket by the same wire, download speed had gone up from 20 to 24mbps but the link score has remained only around 45, which I believe to be considerably lower than it had been with ASDL and the TP-Link router connected to the extension box.

It may be a related issue that in the evenings sometimes, since the system eventually started working with VSDL, it takes an age to open the email client or change websites. Can anything be done to improve this and the link score, please Debbie?
