Interpreting 'broadband information' on the super router console?

Hello

We are on Fibre Medium (i.e. "up to" 40 download /2 upload) at approximately 700m from the fibre cabinet and running with the HG635 super router s/w v1.06t.

Our normal internet download speed as measured using supportal-test.co.uk (TT preferred) on a wired connection is around 26 Mbps with close to 2 Mbps upload. These speeds are fine for what we do.

I wanted to understand better what the 'broadband information' on our HG635 was indicating. Taking figures shown on our line:

a. Max rate (kbit/s): downstream = 43104, upstream = 6541

Is this the maximum our line could sustain, i.e. the best we would be likely to see if we upgraded to Fibre Large (80/20)?

b. Line rate (kbit/s): downstream = 36115, upstream = 2000

This remains steady as internet speeds vary. I assume that this is the actual DSL sync speed for our line on the Fibre Medium subscription?

c. Relationship between line rate and internet speed

The TT speed test shows upload speeds close to the line rate, but download is only around of the 75% line rate (itself below the theoretical maximum 40 Mbps on Fibre Medium). Is this related to distance from the fibre cabinet/quality of copper connection? I recognise that our internet speeds reduce if there are simultaneous users are accessing via our HG635 connection.

I have not been able to find these metrics explained elsewhere on the Forum.

Thanks, Jon
